Being able to edit your presentation over SSH is a nice, nice thing.

Giving your presentation in your favourite layout program is geeky as hell. I do it all the time. After several presentations I prepared this way flunked, I realized the problem: I spent too much time having fun preparing the slides and not enough boring time preparing my speech. I’ve learned my leason, and now, I perfect my speech before I even give a thought to the slides.
