Well, I broke my New Years resolution… It’s been a week since I’ve posted here. It’s bound to happen now and again. I just have to focus and try to get back in the groove so that it’s not a permanent thing. I’ll try to keep it short here, and that shouldn’t be a problem as not much has happened this week
First of all, you’ll immediately notice that the site looks significantly different than the last time you were here. Unless of course you’ve visited in the last 15 minutes. I haven’t had a chance to view it in IE yet, so if you’re having problems, please let me know. Anyway, I used a new approach to get the new style done. Rather than work in the template screen within WP, or work in an editor and constantly refresh pages, I did most of the development/testing simultaneously using the web developer extension for firefox. That made for rapid prototyping and things really came together fast. Unfortunately, just as I finished all that the new version of WP came out, and the theming changed quite a bit. Of course, I could have just copied over the old theme and made it work, but I wanted to take advantage of some of the newer options. I also desparately wanted to have alternating colors for the comments. So anyway, the new theme is called Oscilloscope… let me know how you like (or dislike) it.
Last Saturday, I finally ordered a new tennis racquet. I’m going to pick it up today. After demo-ing the Prince Air-DB, the Head Intelligence 5, and the Head Intelligence Fire, I decided to go with the Fire. It’s a very nice racquet, although it’s a couple of years older it still has a lot of newer technology. It’s got a real nice feel, excellent control, and it’s well balanced and light.
My gentoo install on the HTPC box took a dive. I forgot to re-mask sometehing (~amd64) and when I went to emerge alsa-oss (something I learned later that I probably didn’t need), it downgraded a bunch of packages and blew up. I started getting gcc errors and couldn’t compile anything after that. So I’ve started fresh, and I’ve seemed to get things going again.
I am really enjoying the enlightenment window manager. I also tried fluxbox and xfce4.2, but I think I’m going to stick with enlightenment. It’s simple, clean, and has everything I need.
On Monday and Tuesday, I was pretty much out of commission. I got sick from my wife and just layed around and slept most of the time. I really wasn’t feeling good at all. I’m feeling better now, but I still have a bit of a cough.
Other than that, the week has been pretty quite. I’ve been slowly rebuilding gentoo on the HTPC box, working on some new reports in the office, and generally taking it easy.
Starting this week things are going to get crazy. I have to start cramming for the LPI 102 exam so that I can finally get my certification.
Yes. Congratulations!
Looks good in my IE6, and Firefox. Nothing unusual.
I was looking around for a different theme to solve the RSS problem. Both the Entries and Comments didn’t work. And you’ve got the same problem too!
Not sure if it’s my feeder and browsers’ fault or a WP bug.

Hey… I think I figured out what’s going on with those RSS links. At least, I know what’s going on, but I’m not sure how to fix it. Since 1.5, the rss link has “feed:” appended to the front of it. Apparently this is sort of like “mailto:” or something, and it’s supposed to launch your RSS feeder. Since I don’t have one, it tells me that “feed:” is an unregistered protocol. There’s more information here.
I can’t decide whether or not I should remove it… I don’t think I’m ever going to have a newsreader, but then again, I don’t ever click my own RSS links. If it’s helpful to someone else, I’ll keep it.
