Tough day but getting better

Filed under: Personal — Gregory Haase @ 10:50 pm

It was a long day, but at half-time, my Alum USC is winning the Orange bowl 38 to 10.

I started off the day by clearing aside a ton of email at work, picking up some slack from a 4-day weekend. Then went right into a meeting with my team to talk about everything in front of us for the year. It looks like there will be a ton of stuff to do, but it will mostly be maintenance stuff and probably won’t be very exciting.

From there, I went right into debugging some problems with an ASP application that I support. It was tough putting my ASP hat back on. That took me the rest of the day. I was having trouble getting into the right frame of mind for the application. The ASP was layered pretty deep, with a main script calling a class file which calls a database abstraction later which calls a stored procedure. This is a fairly complicated application, but I’m just not sure I agree with that kind of layering. In general, I’d prefer to duplicate a little bit of code here and there, rather than have HUGE include files everywhere and only use little pieces of them.

But I got myself into a position where I wanted to finish what I was doing before the end of day, so I didn’t have to worry about trying to pick up where I left off. I didn’t finish up until 6:30, and so I raced home to get back in time to watch the kick-off of the game.

Well, I’m extremely happy about how the game is going so far… and if we win, Ed owes me a 6-pack of my favorite beer (not to exceed $20). So I’ll put in a late night, but hopefully it will continue to be a good one.
